InkSmith and The Canadian Shield crowned first ever winner in Digital Revolution Awards’ Rapid Business Innovation Champion category

WATERLOO, ON | FEBRUARY 25, 2021 —InkSmith/The Canadian Shield is proud to announce that it has been named the winner of the Rapid Business Innovation Champion Award in the first ever edition of the Digital Revolution Awards.

The Digital Revolution Awards recognize and celebrate the very best individuals and businesses in the cloud ecosystem. With digital transformation more crucial than ever, the awards seek to showcase the outstanding work being done across the cloud industry, and commend those making a difference to the way we work, the way we live, and the way we build our future through cloud technology.

Winners across all 18 categories were announced on February 25, 2021 in a virtual awards ceremony by host and entrepreneur Maxine Nwaneri.

The Rapid Business Innovation Champion Award recognizes an organization that has innovatively reacted and responded to the health crisis by adapting its services or products for the wider public good.

Founded in March 2020 in the midst of the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic by education technology company InkSmith to address the shortage of protective gear for frontline staff in hospitals and medical facilities — The Canadian Shield is now one of Canada’s largest PPE manufacturers. InkSmith quickly pivoted from being a small edtech startup developing classroom technology to manufacturing PPE products as a result of the increasing demand for ‘Made-in-Canada’ solutions to the global shortages of these products. The company rose to the challenges presented by COVID-19 and pivoted its operations to be a force for good.

Today, The Canadian Shield is utilizing its resources and expertise in deploying millions of medical-grade face masks, face shields, and other PPE products to hospitals, healthcare providers and the general public across Canada over the past year to build the foundation for a sustainable domestic supply chain and PPE manufacturing industry. Investing heavily in automation and innovation, the organization has its sights set on expansion, vertical integration and ownership of global market share, which will positively impact Canada’s economic recovery post-COVID.

“Our winners represent the best, brightest, and most innovative organizations and individuals in the cloud industry, and we’re thrilled to be able to highlight the outstanding work that they’re doing,” said Kashif Naqshbandi, Chief Marketing Officer at awards organizer Tenth Revolution Group. “There was seriously tough competition across all categories, so all winners have done brilliantly to have taken the top spot. It was really exciting to get to discuss the heroes of the cloud space and see up close the fantastic things that are being created, developed and shared.”

“We’re honoured to be recognized alongside other industry leaders that have demonstrated innovation excellence and pivoted their operations over the past year to be a force for good,” said Jeremy Hedges, CEO and founder of InkSmith and The Canadian Shield. “Throughout this entire process, our team’s enthusiasm and desire to do the right thing has always been at the forefront. We are a mission-driven company, proud of the work that we have done but excited for the transformative, innovative work that is ahead of us.”

The Digital Revolution Awards will return in 2022, with nominations set to open once again in the coming months.
